Indian Standards Bureau (BIS) is the national standards body of India functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Food & Puplic Distribution. It is established by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986, which came into force from 23 December 1986. The main functions of the Bureau of Indian Standards are to protect consumers from hazardous products, to provide safety for public health, and1 to provide quality assurance.

2. By this, fraud can also be avoided.
3. By this, assurance of security is given for the crisis against life and property.
4. ISI marked products get replacement when substandard quality.
SI System of Units
The system is made by the National Physics Laboratory, UK and the National Bureau of Standards, USA. It is a world-class system of units, under which seven principal, two complementary and different derived quantities come. Following is the description of the SI system related to the standards.
